Chargers Fall to Sauk Valley Despite Frank’s 7 3-Pointers

GALESBURG—Sophomore guard Makenzie Frank (Knoxville) hit seven 3-pointers, but the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team lost 68-62 to Sauk Valley on Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in an Arrowhead Conference contest.

Sandburg (5-9, 0-3) took its largest lead of the night at 52-39 with 12 minutes, 52 seconds left before the Skyhawks (9-5, 1-1) mounted their comeback. Sauk Valley tied it at 55-55 with 5:09 to go and went ahead for good on Lydia Box’s layup at 3:04, its first lead of the game.

The Chargers hit five 3-pointers in the first half en route to a 40-31 lead. Three of Sandburg’s 3s came from Frank while freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) scored 14 in the opening half. Frank scored a team-leading 23 for the Chargers, and Remick finished the night with 19 points, including three 3s.

Box scored a game-high 26 to lead Sauk Valley. Brianna Richardson scored 14 and Sheldeen Joseph added 11 for the Skyhawks.

The Chargers are back in action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for an Arrowhead contest at Black Hawk East. Sandburg’s next home game is 1 p.m. Saturday against Illinois Central.
