KEWANEE—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team couldn’t recover from a slow start and lost 58-48 at Black Hawk East on Thursday in an Arrowhead Conference contest.

The Chargers (5-10, 0-4) trailed 22-4 in the early going and 33-24 at halftime. Freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) and freshman guard Jordyn Chasteen (Canton) each scored 10 points for Sandburg.

“We struggle to get a play started and have no chance until we start making and/or finishing plays,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said.

Sandburg hosts eighth-ranked Illinois Central at 1 p.m. Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers then play at 7 p.m. Monday at Monmouth JV.
