Chargers Fall in 4 Sets at Sauk Valley

DIXON—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team lost 25-20, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23 at Sauk Valley on Wednesday in an Arrowhead Conference match.


Freshman setter Lexa Mahr had 33 assists, nine digs, two kills and a block for the Chargers (7-8, 2-6), who lost consecutive matches for just the second time this season.


Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey had 14 kills, 12 digs, two blocks and an ace for Sandburg, and sophomore outside hitter Mercedes Sazone added seven kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks. Freshman outside hitter had nine kills for the second straight match in addition to six digs, two blocks and two aces.


“We have to stop diggings ourselves a hole,” Chargers coach Todd Winkler said. “We can fight back, but by then it’s too late.”


Sandburg travels to face Monmouth JV at 7 tonight and will play in the Harper Tournament on Saturday in Palatine.
