ROCK ISLAND—The Carl Sandburg College baseball team pulled away late to hand Augustana JV a 12-6 loss on Thursday for the Chargers' fourth straight victory.
Sophomore third baseman Andrew Sprenke’s go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh inning gave the Chargers (8-8) broke a 5-5 tie, and Sandburg piled on after that with a five-run eighth, capped by first baseman Blake Durflinger’s two-run triple.
Freshman outfielder contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Chargers. Sophomore catcher Michael Harp added two runs and two driven in.
Sophomore right-hander Rebel Schott picked up the victory with two innings of scoreless relief. Schott struck out two, walked one and gave up one hit. Schott, Colton Crain, Lucas Giertz and Durflinger combined to allow just one run on three hits over the final five innings.
The Chargers host Kishwaukee at noon Saturday in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex and host a nonconference twinbill with Waubonsee at 1 p.m. Sunday.
