KEWANEE—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Black Hawk East 45-28 on Saturday afternoon in Arrowhead Conference action.

The Chargers (9-10, 2-4) outscored the Warriors 23-9 in the second half and were led by sophomore forward Destini Bollinger, who posted 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Sandburg opened its big second half with a 9-0 run.

Shania Kraklow led Black Hawk East with eight points. The Chargers’ 28 points allowed were their fewest this season. Sandburg’s previous low was 44 points, on three different occasions.

“We played slow, physical and with an edge today,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “We are very shorthanded on the perimeter with injuries right now, but our bigger lineup played very well defensively. We left a lot of points out there offensively, but today we did a great job of containing and contesting on the defensive end.”

The Chargers will look for their second straight win when they host Illinois Valley at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in another conference matchup.
