DIXON—Freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored a career-high 26 points, but the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team lost 66-62 at Sauk Valley on Tuesday in Arrowhead Conference play.

Sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) added 19 points, but the Chargers (15-9, 4-4) shot 20 for 31 from the free-throw line. The Skyhawks led 33-27 at halftime as they handed Sandburg its third straight loss.

“Going 20 for 31 from the free-throw line in a close game won’t get the job done,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We will find a way to bounce back after a tough three games, but hopefully we do it sooner rather than later. We need to be playing our best basketball at this point in the reason. Instead, we have relaxed and stopped playing hard.”

Sandburg is back in conference action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Black Hawk East at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
