ROCK ISLAND—Augustana JV rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the ninth to hand the Carl Sandburg College baseball team an 8-7 loss on Monday.

The Chargers (10-10) scored twice in the second, four times in the third and added another run in the eighth to take a 7-1 lead into the final frame. The Vikings, though, did all their damage in the ninth before Sandburg could record an out.

Freshman Dean Ballenger (O’Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell Central) surrendered seven hits and a pair of walks before giving way to freshman Adam Staggs (Farmington, Ill./Farmington), who allowed the tying and winning runs to score on back-to-back hits.

Ballenger doubled and had a pair of RBIs at the plate for Sandburg. Freshman Michael Judson (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) went 3 for 4 with a run and two batted in for the Chargers.

Sandburg jumps back into action when it hosts Highland in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. today at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
