OTTUMWA, Iowa—The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team picked up its first victory of the season with an 85-55 win over William Penn JV on Saturday in the Indian Hills Classic.

The Chargers (1-1) were led by 14 points apiece from freshman forwards Mitch Wendling and Aaron Powers. Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard added 11 points, and fellow freshman guard Anthony Misuraca scored 10 for Sandburg, which led 39-25 at halftime and forced 34 turnovers in the contest.

“Today was a good win, but we could have played much better,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We made a lot of defensive mistakes, which we will need to fix this week in practice.”

Sandburg’s next game is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton.
