MONMOUTH—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team pulled away in the second half to beat Monmouth JV 67-49 on Wednesday night.

The Chargers (6-4) led 30-26 at halftime before outscoring the Fighting Scots 37-23 in the second. Sophomore forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria, Ill./Astoria) and freshman forward Sadee Hamilton (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) each scored 10 points to lead Sandburg. Bollinger also added a team-leading eight rebounds.

“We struggled in the first half against a very good defensive squad. Sadee Hamilton gave us a huge lift and got us going in the second half,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “We have a lot of things to correct before we can call ourselves a good squad, but the effort is there and I think eventually we can turn the corner.”

Emily Watkins scored a game-high 12 points for the Scots.

Sandburg wraps up the first semester by hosting John Wood at 3 p.m. Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in the opening game of men’s/women’s doubleheader. The Chargers men’s basketball team will host Triton at 5 p.m.
