Bolliger Shatters Sandburg Record, Finishes 23rd at Nationals

FORT DODGE, Iowa—Carl Sandburg College women’s cross country sophomore Haley Bolliger (Tremont) finished 23rd out of 281 runners and shattered her school record at the NJCAA Division I national championship Saturday at Lakeside Golf Course.

Bolliger, competing at nationals for the second year in a row, crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 14.1 seconds, which was :33.2 better than the Sandburg record she set at last year’s national championship. Bolliger completed the first mile in 5:55.4, ran the race at a 6:12 pace and came less than :16 away from achieving All-American status, which is awarded to the top 15 runners.

Hannah Maina of host Iowa Central was the women’s individual winner with a time of 18:12.6. Iowa Central also won the team championship, placing three runners in the top eight to finish with 41 points. Central Arizona was runner-up with 96 points.
