GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College has hired three employees following approval by the Board of Trustees at its regular monthly meeting held in December. Steven L. Sager was hired as director of business and community education, and Kipton J. Canfield was hired as director of public safety. Mary Pence also was hired as a full-time nursing instructor. All three are employed on the Main Campus in Galesburg.
Pence previously was an adjunct professor with the College and a registered nurse at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She has been employed in the healthcare field for 27 years. Pence has a Master of Nursing from the University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Trinity College of Nursing and a practical nursing certificate from Carl Sandburg College.
Sager has served as the Illinois Green Economy Network adult transition services coordinator at Sandburg since March 2012. He also has worked as the business liaison and communication officer for Western Illinois Works Inc./WIA. Sager possesses a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland.
Canfield served as supervisor of the neighborhood enhancement division of the Galesburg Police Department and retired as a sergeant at the Galesburg Police Department after 20 years of service. He also served as an international police advisor and trainer in Iraq, Afghanistan and Jordan.
All three began their positions Jan. 1.
