2 Chargers Post Season Bests at Illinois Intercollegiate

NORMAL—The Carl Sandburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships on Friday at Weibring Golf Course.


Freshman Haley Bolliger led the Chargers in the 5-kilometer women’s race with a time of 20 minutes, 31 seconds to finish 88th overall. Sophomore Sara Pille placed 126th in 21:33, sophomore Lindsay Beach was 164th in 23:01 and freshman Abbie Billeter finished 181st with a time of 24:16.


Other finishers for the Chargers were freshman Tori Briggs (24:52, 189th), freshman Amber Schlomer (24:53, 190th) and freshman Sarah Baum (28:51, 210th) as Sandburg placed 21st out of 24 teams.


Sophomore Derek Foley crossed first for the Chargers in the 8-kilometer men’s race with a season-best time of 27:41. Freshman Jeff Hilgenberg was 227th in 30:45, and sophomore Nathan Wooters finished 260th in 35:21 to beat his season best by nearly 5 minutes.


Sandburg’s next action is the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College at 5 p.m. Friday at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island.
