MALTA—The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team had a six-point halftime lead, but 10th-ranked Kishwaukee rallied to hand the Chargers a 72-62 loss on Saturday afternoon in Arrowhead Conference play.

Sandburg (12-8, 2-2) led 30-24 at halftime. Sophomore forward Mitch Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) led the Chargers with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and sophomore guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) added 17 points for Sandburg.

The Chargers shot 51 percent from the floor, but they were 7 of 16 at the free-throw line compared to the Kougars’ 27 of 38.

“We played a great first half and then made too many mistakes in the last 20 minutes,” Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle said.

The Chargers travel to face Highland at 7 p.m. tonight in another Arrowhead game. (UPDATE: The game has been postponed to 7 p.m. Wednesday)
