TRIO Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program that provides support and guidance to you during your time at Sandburg and helps you transfer on to a college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Being successful in college takes a lot of work and there are many decisions to make along the way that impact your future. We are here to advise and guide you to keep you on the right track in pursuing your goals. We want you to be successful and we will help you in any way we can to make that happen.

TRIO SSS students come in all shapes and sizes and typically are more active and involved at Sandburg. Many of our students join student clubs, participate in theater, music or art, serve on Student Government or participate in athletics. Our students also tend to be more successful by having higher GPA’s and graduate and transfer at higher rates than students who are not in the program.

How do I qualify?

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be a first-generation college student. This means that neither of your parents have a bachelor’s degree.
  • Be income-eligible according to the federal income guidelines.
  • Be enrolled in an AA, AS, or AFA degree program with the goal of graduating and transferring to a four-year college or university to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

Our mission

The mission of the TRIO Student Support Services Program at Carl Sandburg College is to assist participants in their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree by providing academic and advising assistance and encouraging student development.
