Request an official high school transcript or equivalent (GED) score report be mailed to the college's admission office.
Request official copies of college/post-secondary transcripts be mailed to the college's admission office.
Take college placement exam. Not required if you already have an Associate or Bachelor degree.
Scored a reading score equivalent to college placement into RDG 096 or completion of RDG 096 with a grade of C or better or completion of ENG 098 or higher with a grade of C or better. (Required)
Scored a math score equivalent to college placement into MAT 080 or completion of MAT 080 or higher with a grade of C or better. (Required)
Earned a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above at Carl Sandburg College or the last college you attended or have taken approved "program courses" at Carl Sandburg College or other colleges with a C or better.
Attend an Informational Medical Assistant Program Session prior to applying online to the program or prior to the application deadline submission date of June 1. Refer to the Medical Assistant - Application Checklist for scheduled sessions.
Schedule and appointment and meet with the Medical Assistant Program Advisor.
Complete the following courses with a “C” or better: MDT 100 Medical Terminology, BIO 111 Anatomy & Physiology Fundamentals, and AOP 101 Keyboarding & Formatting I or BOC 107 Tech Skills for Business Environment.
Complete the Medical Assistant Application Checklist. Must be signed by program advisor and applicant and a copy on file in the College of Nursing & Health Professions Office prior to application deadline submission date of June 1.
Complete the online application for admission to the Medical Assisting program. Applications are accepted starting February 1 - June 1 for FALL 2016 admission into the Medical Assistant Program.
Admission is competitive and limited enrollment. Meeting all eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission to the Medical Assistant Program. Final selection will be based on applicant pool and applicant ranking scores. Applicants who are selected will be notified approximately two weeks after the application deadline date.
The following criteria are required of accepted applicants and all information will be explained in detail upon admission into the program:
Applicants accepted into the Medical Assisting program must attend the required orientation session and be able to perform the Medical Assistant Program Essential Skills & Abilities (see program website) with or without reasonable accommodations.
Students accepted will be required to show proof of immunizations and required titers, TB test, physical examination, criminal background check, and 10 panel drug screen. Students will be responsible for all fees incurred. Please refer to the Estimated Costs (see program website).
Please note that findings on the criminal background check may void the conditional admission and prevent entrance to the program. Findings on the physical examination and drug screen may prevent placement at the clinical sites.
