Financial Aid for Study Abroad
Sandburg students enrolled in study abroad courses approved for credit in their program of study may be considered enrolled at Carl Sandburg College for the purpose of applying for assistance for federal student aid programs and may be eligible to receive financial aid from federal, state and institutional sources. Federal and state grants such as PELL and MAP, college scholarships and the student loan program can provide funds to help pay the expense of studying abroad. Eligibility for funds is determined on an individual basis, and students should begin the application process by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible. Students should file the FAFSA by November 15th each year for programs beginning in the fall and by September 1 for spring programs. We recommend that students studying abroad designate a family member as power of attorney to negotiation financial aid funds while abroad.
- Students in study abroad pay program fees rather than tuition therefore, Galesburg Promise will not be available for study abroad enrollment.
- For more details on the scholarships listed below and how to apply for them, please contact our study abroad coordinator at 309-341-5317 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Students are encouraged to make an appointment with the Director of Financial Aid early in the planning process to discuss costs, financial aid available and payments and due dates.
- Sandburg Students may also apply for the following scholarships for study abroad.
Scholarship Applications process is open from December 1 until March 15 each academic year, allowing students to apply for scholarships to be awarded the following academic year.
