Jake Tenhouse

Head Coach - Jake Tenhouse

Email - jtenhouse@sandburg.edu

Phone - 309.341.5472

Jake Tenhouse became the head coach at Sandburg in 2014 after spending nearly a decade as an assistant at the collegiate level.

A graduate of Camp Point Central High School, Tenhouse came to Sandburg after spending 2013 as an assistant at Quincy University, where he also was a three-year letter-winner as a catcher during his playing career. He was part of Hawks teams that were ranked in the NCAA Division II top 25 in 2001 and 2002.

Tenhouse, who also is an admissions recruiter at Sandburg, spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. In 2011, the Bison set a school record with 42 wins — a 17-win improvement from the previous year — and made their first NCAA Division II tournament appearance.

Prior to his tenure at Harding, Tenhouse spent two seasons as an assistant at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., where he also earned his bachelor's in business administration. As catching coach, he was closely involved in the development of catcher Mike Pericht, who was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th round of the 2009 MLB draft.

Tenhouse also has spent two seasons as the head coach of collegiate summer league teams. In 2009, he managed the Wilmington (N.C.) Sharks of the Coastal Plain League. His squad included players from 20 NCAA Division I schools, and he worked extensively with Jesse Bosnik, a 13th-round draft pick by the Dodgers in 2010. In 2008, he managed the Hornell Dodgers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League to the Western Division regular-season title, and he was named the NYCBL Coach of the Year after leading the team to a league-best 32-10 record.

Tenhouse spent the 2008 season as an assistant with Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis, and his first collegiate coaching position came as an assistant during the 2007 season with Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. That spring, the Lions compiled a 47-20 record and won the Mid-South Super Regional to qualify for the NAIA World Series.
