Use the Carl Sandburg College Library catalog to find out if a book, ebook, audiobook, DVD, music CD, software or other type of item is in one of the libraries at Sandburg. (Galesburg and Carthage locations are included)

7.     Bring your items and your Sandburg ID card to the Library desk to check them out. If you do not want the items that you pulled from the shelf, please leave them on a nearby table or the front desk for library staff to shelve.


If you do not find the items you need in the Sandburg Library catalog, or if you cannot determine the location of the item, please ask a library staff member for assistance. You may repeat the search on I-Share to search from 82 other Illinois libraries. Searching local public library catalogs are also helpful.


The Sandburg Library participates in state, national and international interlibrary loan systems, which makes obtaining materials from other libraries possible. Consult a staff member with questions about any aspect of the interlibrary borrowing service.


The I-Share catalog includes the resources of 86 Illinois libraries that belong to CARLI.

To request or renew items you must set up an account through the Login link. Have your Sandburg barcode handy to complete the process. Follow the steps here to set up your account.

The Carl Sandburg College Library offers two ways to borrow materials from other libraries, I-Share and OCLC through To choose the best method of delivery, please read about the choices below.




The fastest method to borrow books from other libraries is the I-Share system. Materials arrive, on average, in 2-4 business days.

Search the Sandburg Library Catalog first before requesting materials. If the item is not there, change the search option to “All I-Share Libraries”

Once you’ve found your title, login to your I-Share account. (Show me how!)

Click ‘Request 1st Available’ tab & Request button

If a book is not available in the I-Share catalog, place a request on OCLC through contacting (Volumes from a multi-volume set are best requested from OCLC.)



Look up the journal title first in Ebsco or other Databases.

Articles from journals and newspapers that Sandburg does not have a subscription to must be requested on OCLC through by contacting Materials arrive, on average, in 1-3 business days.

-        Journal date (day, month, year, etc.)

-        Journal volume and issue number
