Strong communication, time management, organizational, customer service and computer skills are necessary to efficiently and effectively assist internal and external customers daily.

Carl Sandburg College’s administrative office assistant certificate program can help prepare you for entry-level work in a business where a wide variety of office skills is required. This certificate is stackable, which means that after finishing the certificate program, the administrative office professional AAS can be completed in just two additional semesters.

Several the required courses are available online or as a multiple modality. Multiple-modality courses provide students with the option to sit in a traditional classroom, attend online or attend a scheduled class using Skype or a telepresence robot.

Administrative Office Professional AAS

Do you have an interest in becoming an important part of a management team? Administrative/executive assistants and office managers are expected to streamline office operations, manage resources and build relationships with stakeholders. They are also expected to maintain confidentiality, work collaboratively and assist with research. Strong communication, time management, organizational, customer service and computer skills are necessary to efficiently and effectively work in this capacity.

Sandburg’s administrative office assistant AAS program prepares students for administrative/executive assistant and office manager work in four semesters. By completing the first two semesters of this degree, students will also earn the administrative office assistant certificate.

First-Time Enrollees

  • Complete an application for admission and, if desired, apply for financial aid.
  • Send an official high school transcript or GED score report to the Admissions and Records Office.
  • Complete the Accuplacer placement exam.
  • Meet with an advisor/counselor to select classes and complete the registration process.

Business & Accounting Society of Sandburg (BASS)

The mission of BASS is to provide a real world experience outside of the classroom through various exposures to different styles of business and accounting procedures to current students and disseminate business and accounting information throughout Sandburg. Membership is open to all full and part-time students currently enrolled at Sandburg.
