Join us as we visit three unique family farming operations in Central Illinois. Our first stop will be at the Ropp Jersey Cheese Dairy located in Normal. The Ropp’s raise only pure bred prize winning Jersey cows and operate an on-site cheese processing facility. They will share their farm heritage and show you first-hand how fine quality cheeses are made. We will explore the grounds, watch cheese-making, feed calves, and maybe even milk a cow! You won’t want to miss the fresh cheese curd samples too!
Our next stop will be the Mackinaw Valley Vineyard where we will learn about wine making at a real working family vineyard. The Mackinaw Valley Vineyard & Winery recently received medals from the following International and Regional Wine competitions. The dry red table wine Cole’s Classic won a bronze medal at the New York Finger Lakes International Wine competition as well as a silver medal at the Illinois State Fair Wine competition. Other Mackinaw Valley Vineyard Silver Medal wines at this year’s Illinois State Fair Wine Competition are; Vignoles, Alexander’s Conquest and Eric’s Red. The wine Priscilla’s Passion a dry white wine made from LaCrosse grapes and Mackinaw Reserve a dry red table wine both won bronze medals at the Illinois State Fair Competition. The winery has 20 different wines made from French American hybrids and native grapes. Lunch will be served at the vineyard (included) before departing for out last stop at Christ’s Orchard in Elmwood.
