MALTA—The Carl Sandburg College baseball team closed its Arrowhead Conference schedule with a sweep Wednesday at Kishwaukee. The Chargers took the opener 7-6 and won the nightcap 5-1 for their sixth straight victory.
Sandburg (21-22, 11-9) grabbed a 5-1 lead after the fourth inning of Game 1, but the Kougars tied it with a four-run fifth. Connor Shaw broke the tie with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh, and the Chargers held on for the victory.
Shaw finished the game 3 for 4 at the plate, and Josh Wade added a pair of RBIs. Tim Rossell picked up the complete-game victory on the mound after allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking five.
Jeff Trokey led Sandburg in Game 2 with a complete-game three-hitter. Trokey didn’t allow an extra-base hit, struck out four and walked two.
Brian Pflum drove in two runs for the Chargers, and Andrew Sprenke and Shaw each added an RBI. Wade doubled scored twice and had three of Sandburg’s six stolen bases.
The Chargers close their home schedule with a doubleheader against Elgin at 3 p.m. Friday at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
