OGLESBY—Freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) scored a game-high 18 points and the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team upset 19th-ranked Illinois Valley 69-58 on Saturday in Arrowhead Conference action.
The Chargers (9-16, 3-7) picked up their second straight conference victory and completed a sweep of the Eagles this season. Sandburg beat then-No. 17 IVCC 63-58 on Jan. 24 at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
Freshman forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria) added 11 points while freshman forward Lexa Mahr (Macomb) and sophomore forward Jessica Abel (Farmington) each scored 10 for Sandburg. The Chargers led 32-19 at halftime and were able to hang on despite the Eagles twice cutting the lead to six points.
“We played pretty consistently today,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “Time management was solid, hit some shots and it adds up to a nice win on the road. Four players in double figures is nice to see.”
Arnisha Thomas led IVCC with 17 points.
Sandburg hosts South Suburban at 1 p.m. Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium for a nonconference contest.
