GALESBURG—Second-ranked Illinois Central stormed to an early lead and handed the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team a 72-46 loss Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
The Chargers (4-2) opened the game with a 3-pointer by sophomore forward Marysa Remick (Victoria, Ill./ROWVA), but the Cougars (6-2) followed with a 17-0 run and never looked back. ICC led 39-18 at halftime.
Sophomore forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria, Ill./Astoria) scored 10 points and was the only Sandburg player to reach double figures. Sophomore guard Kaylee Moseley (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) added nine points for the Chargers. ICC forced 24 Chargers turnovers and held Sandburg to 2-of-26 shooting from 3-point range.
“Their defensive pressure was too much for us and totally took our offense out of the game,” Sandburg coach Mike Bailey said. “With their pressure and our 3-point shooting, that’s how you lose by 26.”
Shay Robinson scored a game-high 17 points for the Cougars. Gabby Williams added a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.
The Chargers will have a break for Thanksgiving before traveling to face Southeastern (Iowa) at 6 p.m. Dec. 4.
