GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College President Dr. Lori Sundberg has accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the American Association of Community Colleges’ 21st Century Initiative Implementation Team.
The Implementation Team will expand on the work of the 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges by focusing on aspects of the commission’s report, “Reclaiming the American Dream,” which was released in April and examined the challenges and opportunities facing higher education.
“It is an honor to be invited to participate in the AACC 21st Century Implementation Team,” Sundberg said. “I look forward to working with colleagues from all over the country on this initiative of national, state and local importance. There is simply nothing more important today than student success.”
Sundberg was chosen to be part of the Implementation Team on Accountability. The team will address the commission’s recommendation to implement policies and practices that promote rigor, transparency and accountability for results in community colleges. The team’s primary tasks include:
• Using products of related work by other implementation teams to build on the Voluntary Framework of Accountability (VFA) so that it includes measures of student learning and of employment-related outcomes of the community college education.
• Serving as the steering group for the nationwide implementation of the VFA.
• Pursuing collaborative efforts to develop common metrics for assessing community college student progress and completion.
• Contributing information resources to the AACC 21st Century Center and the VFA website.
