LASALLE—The Carl Sandburg College men's golf team finished 10th in the 20-team Illinois Valley Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Chargers shot 325 during Friday’s opening round at Deer Park Country Club and 320 during Saturday's second round at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club for a two-day total of 645.
Sophomore Patrick Lewis (Williamsfield) broke 80 for each round and led the Chargers with a total of 156. Freshman Austin McDougall III (Pekin) finished at 160, and sophomore Joey Juergens (Galesburg) shot 160, including a 79 on Saturday to match Lewis for Sandburg’s low round of the day.
Freshman Ryan Ballard (Metamora) came in at 166 for the tournament and freshman Dylan Mullins (Metamora) shot 169. Freshman Bryer Anderson (Farmington) shot 189 while competing as an individual.
Black Hawk Black shot 298 in each round to beat St. Francis Gold by eight strokes for the team title. Illinois Central’s Jake Schneider was the individual medalist after posting a 145 for the tournament.
Sandburg’s next event is the Skyhawk Classic at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Emerald Hills Golf Course in Sterling.
