MALTA—Nationally ranked Kishwaukee jumped to a big first-half lead and went on to beat the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team 60-36 on Saturday afternoon in Arrowhead Conference play.
Freshman forwards Alex Strom (Victoria, Ill./Galva) and Julia Isenhour (Clinton, Iowa/Prince of Peace) each had seven points to lead the Chargers (8-8, 1-2), who have three losses to nationally ranked opponents this season.
The Kougars, ranked ninth in NJCAA Division II, led 28-9 at halftime. Ashanti Davis and Tami Morice each had 14 points for Kishwaukee.
“This was our third straight game where we have gotten off to a horrible start offensively with lack of execution, not knowing our strength and not finishing plays,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “In the second half we started getting some solid post touches, and it resulted in some positive plays for our squad. The kids didn’t quit working which is another positive.”
Sandburg continues Arrowhead play when it travels to face Highland at 5 p.m. tonight. (UPDATE: The game has been postponed to 5 p.m. Wednesday)
