TRENTON, Mo.—The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team opened its season by splitting a pair of games in the Show-Me State. The Chargers dropped their season debut 90-81 at Moberly (Mo.) Area on Friday before picking up an 89-82 victory Saturday at North Central Missouri.
Sophomore guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) scored a career-high 35 in the win at North Central Missouri. Sophomore forward Jeremy Brown (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) scored 12 and freshman guard Reggie Anderson (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) added 11 for Sandburg, which led 41-29 at halftime.
Hubbard also paced the Chargers (1-1) with 26 points in Friday’s contest at Moberly Area. Anderson added 21 points and sophomore forward Mitch Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) added a dozen. Sandburg, which shot 37 of 43 from the free-throw line, trailed 42-31 at halftime.
“We had a good weekend,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We shot the ball well from the free-throw line in both games.”
Sandburg plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Southeastern (Iowa) before playing its first home game at 3 p.m. Saturday against Elgin at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
