GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College baseball team dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader with McHenry on Sunday at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex. The Chargers lost the opener 6-2 and fell 11-10 in Game 2.

Sandburg (14-18) came up short in Game 2 despite knocking out 14 hits. Josh Swank led the Chargers offensively by going 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, including a solo home run in the third. Connor Shaw also drove in two with a two-run shot in the second.

Freshman Jon Kupfert allowed nine runs on 13 hits in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss. Sandburg relievers Cory Cook, Rebel Schott and Brendan Butrimas combined to allow just two runs on four hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.

McHenry led 5-0 after its half of the sixth and held on in the opener. Swank drove in the Chargers’ only runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. Zach Zwenger gave up five runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. He struck out two and walked six.

The Chargers return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday when they host Black Hawk in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader.
