OGLESBY—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team evened its Arrowhead Conference record with a 26-24, 15-25, 25-19, 21-25, 18-16 victory at Illinois Valley on Tuesday night.
Freshman setter Lexa Mahr had 35 assists, 11 kills, six digs and an ace for the Chargers (12-11, 5-5), and sophomore outside hitter Mercedes Sazone notched 10 kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey had a team-leading 17 kills along with four blocks and an ace. Sophomore Dani Lessard and freshman Ashley Rupert contributed 19 digs and 12 digs, respectively, out of the back row.
“We finally found the six people to give us the amount of effort that was necessary,” Chargers coach Todd Winkler said.
Sandburg hosts Black Hawk at 6 p.m. Wednesday at John Lewis Gymnasium in its final home match of the regular season. It will be Sophomore Night as well as the Chargers’ Pack the Place and Pink Out match to raise money for cancer research.
