Bolliger Shatters Sandburg 6K Record at Brissman-Lundeen Invite

ROCK ISLAND—Carl Sandburg College sophomore women’s cross country runner Haley Bolliger broke the school record for a 6-kilometer race during Friday’s Brissman-Lundeen Invitational a Saukie Golf Course.

 

Bolliger, who also holds the women’s 5K school record, finished the race in 24 minutes, 12.2 seconds to break the previous record of 24:52 set by Jessica Hanson in 2007. Bolliger placed 54th out of 425 runners overall.

 

The Chargers women’s team finished 25th in the team standings but finished just one spot behind Muskegon (Mich.) for first place in the junior college division. Other finishers for Sandburg were freshman Marisa Miller (27:48, 267th), freshman Bayleigh Harrison (27:57, 275th), freshman Christina Kokjohn (28:59, 318th), sophomore Kenzie Payton (29:34, 332nd), freshman Tessa Vowels (29:56, 337th) and sophomore Abbie Billeter (30:28, 355th).

 

Sandburg finished 33rd overall and fifth in the junior college division of the men’s 8K race. Freshman Rimirez Black led the Chargers by placing 242nd out of 492 runners in 28:58, and sophomore Jeff Hilgenberg was 311th in 30:02. Other finishers for the Chargers were freshman John Peterson (30:39, 343rd), freshman David Kantor (30:44, 348th), freshman Tyler Schuermann (31:05, 347th), and freshman Jacob Wolf (32:39, 422nd).

 

The Chargers’ next race is the Illinois Wesleyan Titan Open on Oct. 4 at Maxwell Park in Normal. The women’s race will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 5:15 p.m.
