GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team finished tied for 11th at the Scot-Fire Classic, which took place Friday at Gibson Woods Golf Course and Saturday at Soangetaha Country Club.
The Chargers shot 333 as a team Friday but rebounded with a 324 in Saturday’s final round. Freshman Ryan Ballard (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and sophomore Joey Juergens (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) paced the Chargers by finishing at 17 over par for the tournament and tying for 41st individually. Juergens had Sandburg’s lowest round of the tournament with a 4-over 76 on Saturday.
Dylan Mullins (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) totaled a 166 and Austin McDougal III came in at 172 for Sandurg. Bryer Anderson (Elmwood, Ill./Farmington) carded an 88 that counted toward the Chargers’ score Saturday.
Kirkwood won the tournament with a total of 589, five shots better than Monmouth. Former Charger David Blake, now at Monmouth, finished at 4 under to win medalist honors for the tournament.
The Chargers will return to Arrowhead Conference action when they have a conference meet hosted by Sauk Valley at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Emerald Hill Golf Course in Sterling.
