4 Chargers Named to All-Arrowhead Conference Softball Team

GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College softball players Jordyn Chasteen, Grace Cleair, Brooke Howard and Lindsay Lippert have been named to the all-Arrowhead Conference team for their play this season.

 

Chasteen, a freshman shortstop from Canton High School, hit .340 with 23 RBIs and a team-leading 30 runs scored in 47 games. She also led the Chargers with 13 doubles and a pair of home runs. Chasteen’s .489 slugging percentage was good for second on the squad, and her .408 on-base percentage was third highest on the team. She hit .369 with a homer and 10 RBIs in Arrowhead play.

 

Cleair, a sophomore pitcher from ROWVA, posted a 10-3 record with a team-leading 2.47 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 85 innings. She went 5-0 with a 1.48 ERA over 33 innings in conference play. The right-hander won her last eight decisions overall before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the final week of the regular season.

 

Howard, a sophomore pitcher from Farmington, led the Chargers with 59 hits, a .401 average and a .497 slugging percentage while also driving in 24 runs. The right-hander also finished with a 14-10 record and a save in 28 appearances in the circle. She threw a team-leading 170 innings, finishing with a 3.01 ERA while striking out 67 and walking 20. Howard tossed four shutouts, and at one point during the season she won seven straight starts. She appeared in 13 conference games, posting a 7-5 record and 2.23 ERA over 88 innings.

 

Lippert, a sophomore outfielder from LaSalle-Peru, batted .325 with a homer and 19 RBIs. Her 28 runs scored were second on the team to Chasteen, and she also was second on the team with 10 stolen bases. She hit a team-high .371 in Arrowhead games and matched Chasteen for first on the squad with 13 runs.

 

Sandburg finished the season with a 29-23 overall record and 12-8 mark in Arrowhead Conference play. After getting off to a 7-13 start, the Chargers won 19 of their next 22, which included a nine-game overall winning streak and 11 straight wins in conference play. The hot stretch helped Sandburg reach as high as No. 20 in the NJCAA Division II rankings during the regular season.
