GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College men’s golf coach Ryan Twaddle likes what he’s seen from the Chargers after two events this fall, but he still sees plenty of room for improvement.

GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 Arrowhead Conference sweep of Illinois Valley on Wednesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.


Freshman outside hitter McKenna Weaver (Limestone) paced the Chargers (1-5, 1-1) with a solid all-around performance in the team’s home opener. Weaver led Sandburg with six kills and four aces. She also added 2.5 blocks and nine digs.

KANKAKEE—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Prairie State on Saturday afternoon.

GALESBURG—With four sophomores returning for this fall on both the Carl Sandburg College men’s and women’s cross country teams, Chargers coach Bruce Tracy is optimistic his squads can make some positive strides this season.

“Our people coming back as sophomores are, many times, in better shape than they were the last year, which I’m pretty happy about,” Tracy said. “At this point, everybody’s moving along and making progress.”

GALESBURG—Starting the season 0-4 would raise a red flag for most teams, but that’s not the case for Carl Sandburg College volleyball coach Todd Winkler.

The Chargers opened their year by dropping all four of their matches in the Battle of the Dells on Aug. 22-23, but three of those losses came against teams ranked in the initial NJCAA Division II poll of the season (No. 1 Parkland, No. 4 Illinois Central and No. 17 Iowa Central).

GALESBURG—After teaming up in high school, Martel Hunter and Trayvon Smith now will do the same at Carl Sandburg College. The former Monmouth-Roseville High School standouts have signed to suit up for the Chargers men’s basketball team this season.
