Study Abroad Offerings
Carl Sandburg College works in conjunction with the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) and other Illinois community colleges in order to provide semester and summer study abroad programs for its students. These programs are intended to provide students with a better understanding of the world via living and studying in different cultural environments around the globe.

Study Abroad Requirements
In order to be eligible to study abroad, students must meet the following requirements:
2.75 or higher GPA
“B” or better in English 101
12-15 hours of college earned credit
Courses
Typically, 2 courses are offered for summer programs and 4-5 courses are offered for semester programs. Most programs include a culture course and/or a language course in addition to elective courses. For all programs requiring language study, no prior experience is required. However, students with previous language experience will be tested and placed in the appropriate courses. During their study abroad, students are registered as Carl Sandburg students and receive course credit directly through the College.
Costs
Program costs vary by country. Most program costs include tuition abroad, housing (with host families when available), some meals, field trips and health insurance. Typically, students are required to pay for their airfare, passport and/or visa, some meals and personal expenses. For information on current program costs, please visit the ICISP website.
Application Deadlines
Study abroad requires advanced planning. Please note that the study abroad application deadlines are usually:
Fall – May 1
Spring – November 1
Summer – February 1
Scholarship Opportunities
Pell Grant recipients are eligible for summer study scholarships of up to $3,000 and semester study scholarships of up to $5,000. In addition, all CSC students are eligible for $500 scholarships offered through CSC and ICISP. Please contact Shanon Dickerson sdickerson@sandburg.edu for application requirements and deadlines.
Federal Student Aid
A student’s enrollment in a program of study abroad approved for credit by Carl Sandburg College may be considered enrollment at Carl Sandburg College for the purpose of applying for assistance under the Federal Student Aid programs.
