Teaching Philosophy / Personal Statement
As an instructor, I define an educated person, in part, as one who is self-directing, self-monitoring and self-correcting. In other words, this individual sets his/her own goals, works out how to achieve those goals, tracks his/her own progress, and adjusts his/her activities in the light of experience.

As an individual and a life-long learner, I believe this statement applies to college students taking college courses. Gaining knowledge and/or completing a course in the sequence of one’s education is not something that instructors “do” to students but rather students must “take charge” of their own learning.
